Event of Pushing Forward Animal Welfare Legislation on Oct. 28, 2006
On October 28, 2006, Beijing Human and Animal Environmental Education Center organized an event with the topic of “Adding to the prestige of the 2008 Olympic Games by pushing forward the animal protection legislation”. The event aims at promoting the process of animal welfare legislation and calling on the elevation of people’s concept of feeding companion animals in a more civilized way.
Participants include the environmental and animal protection societies from over 20 universities in Beijing, “Roots and Shoots” clubs of WAB (Western Academy of Beijing) and ISB (International School of Beijing), the volunteers, and the elites of varied sectors who are concerned with animal protection.
Mdm Zhang Luping, the founder of the BHAEEC, delivered a speech expressing her concerns of the current status of animals’ living conditions in China and her comments on the outbreak of the rabies. She suggest the government to promulgate an animal welfare law to manage the animals and the pet owners in a scientific way. The representatives of the participants also delivered speeches on the issue and expressed their wish for the legislation.
