The Beginnings

It was in 1990 that Zhang Luping first hosted and provided care for abandoned animals in her then home and private business office. She was inundated with pet animals from the very beginning, with a peak in 1995 when Beijing began charging high registration fees to dog owners. Sadly, many owners simply dumped their cats and dogs onto the streets, or took them to Zhang Luping. Thus she had to move frequently, forever searching for larger and larger low-cost premises where she could care for her charges.

In 1995, given her commitment to her cause, it was inevitable that Zhang Luping felt obliged to sacrifice her commercial business and move to the countryside for two years. During that time, Zhang Luping realized that she should set up an education center to arouse Chinese people’s consciousness of respect for life and love for animals, so that the practice of abusing animals can be eliminated.
