Along with other hardworking, highly committed Chinese animal protection groups, the center is regarded as a shining example for Chinese people to re-evaluate their traditional ideas about the relationship between man and animals. Numerous touching stories about the center’s saving of abandoned animals are drawing more and more people to examine Zhang Luping’s approach. Best of all, more and more young people are joining her squad of volunteers. She herself is in no doubt that much of the key to changing public attitudes lies in education, and that the younger her volunteers, the better.
Zhang Luping’s determined efforts are recognized and supported by the International Foundation of Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). Meanwhile, through years of efforts, Zhang Luping and her center have become the government’s closest partners in the field of animal welfare. Her suggestions have been adopted by the Beijing People’s Congress, the capital’s top legislative body, to reform the rules on dog licensing and management. Zhang Luping and her center are now sparing no efforts to promote the legislation of animal welfare in China.
