Many people choose to buy a kitten or puppy from pet sellers. However, due to the fact that there is no animal welfare or protection law or regulation in China except for The Law on Wild Animal Conservation promulgated in 1988, the pet market in China is very immature and lacks of administration. A great number of people have seen the high profit in pet selling business, so they simply produce the animals as many as possible, without caring of their health conditions. It’s common that a puppy or a kitten is purchased and dies within a week.

Though BHAEEC is a privately run animal shelter, it’s the largest no-kill pet rescue organization in China. It has rescued over 1,000 homeless and abused animals, among which over 600 are still living at the center. All the rescued animals have been provided medical treatment and regain health, except for a few disabled ones who had been homeless for a long time and missed the best timing for cure. If you come to the center for a look, you will find out how lovely and healthy the animals are, and, how much they are in desperate need of a family. We sincerely hope more animals of the center can find loving homes, and we will be able to rescue more homeless animals. According to some incomplete statistics, there are over 1,000,000 homeless animals in Beijing and the number is still growing, while BHAEEC is the only place with the capacity of sheltering hundreds of animals.
